Shipping Container Homes

Seriously, what will they come up with next?  Shipping containter homes may be one of the wildest concepts in living and architectural design I've seen to date.

Adam Kalkin, a New Jersey based architect, has found creative ways to use shipping containers that he is dubbing the "Quick House".  His designs range from luxury homes to small retail to refugee housing.
He also lives in one!
Shipping containers are Green, durable and inexpensive, they can be purchased for as low as $1,000.
Check out some of his quirky and amazing transformations:

It is an interesting concept, but I only think I could wrap my head around the  espresso bar or the guest house (can only see this in an environment like Palm Springs, Las get the idea).  No matter, his designs are clean and modern which presents a very attractive setting.
What do you think?

  1. Just talking about these with a friend. She has some land she's looking to develop in Seattle and I think this would be perfect. Hopefully this will turn into a fun project.
My parents bought one and have converted it into a storage space, complete with windows, air conditioning and carpet.
I hadn't seen some of these, great roundup! i'm feeling inspired!

  2. They are so unique and pretty fascinating. I love the affordability aspect for anyone who can’t afford their own home--find a little plot of land and voilĂ ! Or, a vacation home by a little lake. You just re-inspired me!

I LOVE your comments; keep them coming!
